Project Activity Tracking Software

If you're looking for screenshots, keystroke logs, or a feed of every click, ShipSprint doesn't have one, on purpose. Here's what it tracks instead, and why that's the better bet.

Let's answer the question directly: no, ShipSprint doesn't track activity

No screenshots. No keystroke logging. No idle timers, no mouse-movement scores, no minute-by-minute feed of what someone clicked on. If "activity tracking" means surveillance of how a person spent their screen time, ShipSprint doesn't do it, and there's no setting anywhere in the admin panel that turns it on.

That's not an oversight, and it's not a feature we haven't gotten to yet. It's a decision, and it's worth explaining plainly, because plenty of teams shopping for "activity tracking" are actually looking for something ShipSprint does provide. They just haven't heard it named that way, and the honest answer to what they need isn't a click feed at all.

Why we built it this way

It also comes up during setup, when an admin is deciding what to turn on for a new workspace. There's no monitoring toggle to skip, no consent banner to write for a feature that isn't there. Onboarding a new team is just: create a board, invite people, start logging. Nothing to explain or apologise for.

Activity monitoring measures motion, not output. Someone can generate an hour of "active" screen time doing nothing especially useful, and someone else can solve the hard problem of the week in fifteen focused minutes that look idle on a graph the whole time. The metric and the thing you actually care about, work getting done, aren't the same thing, and chasing the metric quietly makes the real thing worse, not better.

There's a trust cost too. A team that knows it's being watched keystroke by keystroke starts managing the appearance of busyness instead of the work itself, and the data the system collects gets less honest the harder it tries to catch people out. Once that starts, everything downstream, forecasts, scorecards, capacity planning, inherits the same dishonesty. We'd rather collect less and be able to trust every bit of what we have.

So instead of monitoring how work happens, ShipSprint records that it happened, in a form the person doing it chooses to enter themselves. In practice that means the five-second time entry stays honest sprint after sprint, because nothing else on the person's screen is being watched while they file it.

What we track instead

Outcomes, not motion

Four things ShipSprint does measure, and why each one is a better signal than the click feed it replaces.

Items delivered

What moved to done, and when: the same board position that drives status for everyone, not a private log only a manager gets to see behind the scenes.

Hours logged

A five-second entry the person files themselves, next to the task they just finished. It's self-reported, and that's the point: it reflects what they consider their day, not a guess based on cursor movement or tab-switching.

Forecast accuracy

Delivery forecasts are checked against what actually shipped, sprint after sprint, which tells you far more about a team's real pace over time than any click count ever could.

Leave-adjusted scorecards

Output measured against real availability, not raw hours logged into a system, and visible to the person it describes, not hidden away in a manager-only report they never see.

What an outsourced team's client actually needs to see

A common version of this question comes from agencies and outsourced teams billing a client by the hour, worried a client will ask for screenshot proof of work. In practice, what satisfies that concern almost always turns out to be the same outcome data ShipSprint already produces: hours logged against named tasks, items delivered against a timeline, and a forecast that's been checked against reality sprint after sprint. A client asking "how do I know the hours are real" is usually satisfied by a credible, itemised, per-project report, not by a folder of screenshots nobody has time to review anyway. Agencies running on ShipSprint tend to find that report is already sitting there, built from the same logs their own team uses to plan the week.

The conversation this usually comes up in

Most of the time, "do you have activity tracking" is really two different questions wearing the same words. One is "can I tell whether my team is actually productive," a fair thing for any manager to want, and ShipSprint answers it directly through throughput, forecast accuracy and logged hours. The other is "can I watch what my team is doing minute to minute," and that's the one ShipSprint declines to answer, because building it would mean building the exact dynamic described above, where the tool starts working against the trust it needs to be useful at all.

Asked plainly, most people asking the first question don't actually want the second. They want to know if delivery is healthy, and outcomes answer that better than a click log ever would.

If you specifically need surveillance-style tracking

Some businesses, outsourced billing shops, certain compliance-heavy client contracts, genuinely need screenshot or keystroke evidence to satisfy someone else's audit requirement. That's a real use case; it's just not one ShipSprint serves, and we'd rather say so plainly up front than sell you something that half-does the job and disappoints everyone involved. What ShipSprint is built for is teams who want to know whether work is landing on time, without turning the tool itself into a reason people start distrusting each other.

If that's genuinely your requirement, it's worth knowing before a trial rather than after. We'd rather lose the deal cleanly than earn a bad review six months in.

FAQ

Common questions

No. There are no screenshots, no keystroke logging and no activity metrics anywhere in the product, admin settings included. What's visible to admins is the same outcome data everyone else sees, board status, logged hours, forecasts, plus an audit log of admin actions, which is not the same thing as employee activity.
