Why teams leave Asana, and why some should stay
Asana is good at tasks, due dates and dependencies, and at rolling work up to company goals. Teams usually start looking elsewhere when the day-to-day problem is capacity: the Workload view shows that someone is overloaded, but nothing stops the next task landing on them. Time tracking and delivery forecasts tend to come from other tools, and the reporting and admin features many teams want sit on higher tiers.
ShipSprint handles capacity with a hard limit instead of a dashboard. Each board column has a WIP limit, so a full column won't accept another card until something moves on. Time logging is built in on Team and Business, and on Business delivery dates are forecast from the team's measured pace.
If your real need is portfolio visibility across many initiatives, with goals that individual tasks ladder up to, stay on Asana. ShipSprint has no goals module to replace that. The full comparison says so plainly.
A two-week switch for one team
- Day 1: start the trial. It runs on the full Business plan for 14 days with a sample project loaded, and it doesn't ask for a card.
- Day 1: bring over open work only. Write to sk@quantuva.in before you start to ask what can be imported from Asana. Whatever the answer, move only the tasks that are open now and leave completed projects in Asana for reference.
- Day 2: turn sections into columns. Asana's board sections become ShipSprint columns. Give each one a WIP limit that matches how much the team can really carry.
- Day 2: route requests through triage. New asks go to the project's triage inbox instead of being assigned straight to a person, so nothing joins someone's list without a decision.
- Days 2 to 10: run one sprint in ShipSprint. Everyone else carries on in Asana. Log time next to the tasks you close and use the “my day” screen to start each morning.
- Days 11 to 14: compare and decide. Did fewer things get stuck? Was the week easier to plan? If it worked, move the next team. If not, the trial ends without a charge.
Where your Asana habits land
Most of what a team does in Asana has a direct home. One thing doesn't, and it's worth knowing before you start.
Each Asana project becomes a ShipSprint project with a board, backlog, sprints and a roadmap view over the same work.
Instead of checking a chart to see who's overloaded, a full column stops new work arriving. Capacity planning on Team and up also counts approved leave.
On Business, delivery dates are calculated from each team's measured velocity as sprints close, so a slipping date shows up weeks before it's due.
WIP limits, the triage inbox and automatic follow-ups on stalled work cover what many intake and routing rules were built to do.
The brief and the decisions behind it live in the built-in wiki, next to the board, and any sentence can become a task.
On Business, the owner command center shows every team's progress on one screen, but there is no goals or OKR module. If you depend on one, keep Asana for that work.
What it costs
Team is ₹299 per user per month (₹2,899 a year) for up to 40 people, with time tracking, GitHub sync and the manager dashboard. Business is ₹599 (₹6,499 a year) and adds the owner command center, delivery forecasts, scorecards, the audit log and sign-in with Google or Microsoft. Prices are per seat and billed in rupees, and every paid charge has a 7-day refund. The pricing page has a seat calculator.
Questions about leaving Asana
Ask us at sk@quantuva.in before you start, and we'll tell you what can be brought across. Either way, we'd suggest moving only open work and leaving finished projects in Asana for reference.
There's a roadmap view over the same work as the board, backlog and sprints. On Business, delivery dates come from forecasts based on measured pace rather than from dependency chains you maintain by hand.
Yes, and we'd suggest it. One team works in ShipSprint for a sprint while everyone else carries on in Asana.
Nothing is charged, because the trial never asked for a card. The workspace drops to the Free plan with nothing deleted, and you can export everything as JSON at any time.
When your organisation runs on goals and portfolios that roll individual tasks up to company objectives, or depends on Asana's integration catalogue. ShipSprint has no goals module.
