Start free, pay when the team needs more

At three or four people, a startup needs a shared board and not much else. The usual trap is a tool that is free for a month and then asks for a card just as the team has moved its work into it.

Someone starts asking when features will ship, and someone starts asking how the company keeps track of decisions. In Manama, the centre of Bahrain’s banking and finance sector, a pilot customer may well be a regulated business with its own questions.

A small team’s calendar

With four or five people, one person away is a fifth of the team. Capacity planning on Team and up counts approved leave and public holidays, which in Bahrain means planning for the Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha holidays, which come about eleven days earlier each year, and for Ramadan, when working hours are often shorter. Your week runs Sunday to Thursday, so plan demo days and sprint ends around that rather than around a Friday.

What a Manama founder should know before signing up

Who you’re buying from. ShipSprint is a product of Quantuva Technologies Pvt. Ltd., based in Hyderabad, India. It has no office or local entity in Bahrain, and it supports customers through email and in-app chat.

Time zones. IST is 2 hours 30 minutes ahead of Manama year-round. Most of your day falls inside India’s, so on paid plans a support question usually gets a reply the same working day, Indian time.

Billing. Paid seats are charged in Indian rupees through Razorpay, and your card’s bank converts the amount. VAT treatment of a subscription bought from a foreign supplier is one for your accountant.

Data protection. Even a small startup has duties under Bahrain’s Personal Data Protection Law (Law No. 30 of 2018). Before customer or pilot data goes in, read the sub-processor list and the security overview and check them against the law and anything your pilot agreement requires.
