Chennai is a major centre for automobile and auto-component manufacturing, and plenty of the project work here isn't software at all. On Team and up, work follow-ups and email digests keep pending items in front of the people responsible. On Business, delivery forecasts are worked out from the velocity each team actually achieved as sprints close, which helps where software work feeds a fixed plant or customer date.

Pongal, Diwali and the year-end quarter

Pongal in January is the big regional festival here. For a company on the April to March financial year, it also falls in the final quarter, when projects and budgets are being closed. Capacity planning on Team and up counts approved leave and public holidays, so a commitment made for late January is checked against the people who will actually be in.

Diwali and Holi need the same treatment. Regional festivals differ from state to state, so colleagues from other states may need days that aren't on your holiday list; record them as leave and the plan includes them. If some of your teams work Saturdays, set their capacity to the week they really work.
