The milestone report starts in the repository

A development team working under a government contract answers to more than its own product owner. There's usually a program office, a milestone plan agreed at signature, and a monthly or fortnightly report that asks what was delivered. The sprint board is the team's best source for that report, if it's accurate.

It usually isn't, quite. Cards are left in "in progress" after the merge, a ticket gets closed without code behind it, and the person who knew why a task changed has rolled off to another contract. The report then gets reconstructed from the repository by whoever has time.

On Team and up, ShipSprint moves cards from GitHub. Opening a linked branch moves a card into progress; merging the pull request closes it. The board follows the repository, so the delivery report and the code tell the same story.

Contractors joining mid-project

Teams on government work often mix permanent staff with contractors who join for a phase. A new contractor opens to a "my day" screen with today's items, a one-tap time log and an "I'm blocked" button that pulls in the right person with the task's context. The wiki gives them the setup notes and the reasons behind earlier decisions without a week of shadowing.

Time is logged in about five seconds next to the finished task, and on Team and up timesheets show hours by project, which helps where contractors bill by the day. Reminders about a missing log go to the person, not their lead, and there are no screenshots, keystroke logs or activity tracking.

AI assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT and Antigravity) connect over MCP on Team and up, acting only with the developer's own permissions. On Business, every assistant action is recorded in the workspace audit log.

Capacity planning on Team and up counts approved leave and public holidays. Plan sprints around the Christmas to late-January summer break and Easter, and remember that public holidays differ by state, with the ACT keeping some of its own, if your team is split between Canberra and another city.

What it isn't for

ShipSprint holds no Australian government security accreditation and isn't designed for classified code, data or documents. Use it for the unclassified planning and tracking layer, and keep anything else in the environments your contract names.

Time zones. IST is 5 hours 30 minutes behind Canberra under daylight saving (January) and 4 hours 30 minutes behind in winter (July). Our day starts in your afternoon, and a setup question is usually answered the same Indian working day. Connect GitHub during the trial so that's settled early.

Billing. Billing is per seat in Indian rupees via Razorpay, converted by your bank. Ask your accountant about GST on an overseas service, and check it suits your procurement rules.

Data protection. Personal information in tickets, logs and wiki pages falls under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, and a government contract may add conditions. Compare the sub-processor list and the security overview with both.
