Month one and month twelve need different things
Technology is a large part of Austin's economy, but most companies here still start the usual way: two or three people with a laptop and a list. At that stage a project tool needs to do very little: hold the list, show who's doing what, and not cost much. A year later the same company has a hiring plan, a first enterprise customer asking for a delivery date, and investors who want to know whether the roadmap is real.
The common mistake is buying for month twelve in month one, or the reverse: staying on a free tool so long that moving off it means losing a year of history. ShipSprint is designed so the same workspace carries through. You start on core boards and switch more on as the company needs it, without migrating.
What to use at each point
A rough guide to which plan fits, based on what the company is doing rather than how many people it has.
Free covers core boards for up to 5 users and 2 projects, with all project templates and no expiry. Enough for one product board and one for everything else.
Team adds GitHub integration, so branches move cards and merged pull requests close them, plus time tracking, the manager dashboard and capacity planning.
HR templates give candidate pipelines and onboarding checklists their own vocabulary on the same subscription, so a new hire's first week is a list someone owns.
Business forecasts delivery from measured velocity as sprints close, which is the number to put in an investor update or a customer email.
Also on Business: the owner command center across every team and a Monday digest that arrives assembled, instead of a founder rebuilding status by hand.
The trial, and what happens after it
Every new workspace can start a 14-day trial of the full Business plan, with a sample project loaded and no card. That's long enough to run a real sprint with GitHub connected and see what a forecast looks like once it closes.
If nobody upgrades, the workspace continues on Free with nothing deleted. You keep the boards and the history and lose the paid features, so a team that isn't ready to pay doesn't have to start over later. If you do pay and change your mind, any charge is refunded in full within 7 days.
Two habits pay off early. Put decisions in the built-in wiki, which keeps page history, so the reason for a choice survives the person who made it. And on Team, turn on capacity planning before the first US holiday crunch: Thanksgiving week in late November, Independence Day on 4 July and the end-of-December holidays all take a bite out of a small team's sprint.
For Austin founders: who's behind ShipSprint
Who you're buying from. Quantuva Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad, India. There's no office or local entity in the US, and support happens over email and in-app chat.
Time zones. IST is 11 hours 30 minutes ahead of Austin in winter and 10 hours 30 minutes ahead in summer, so our working day roughly covers your night. Replies usually come the same working day in India, which for you is overnight, so a back-and-forth on a tricky setup can take a couple of days. Put the details in the first message.
Billing. Plans are billed per user in Indian rupees through Razorpay. Your bank converts the charge to dollars, and your accountant can tell you whether Texas sales or use tax applies to a service bought from outside the US.
Data protection. There's no single federal privacy law; state laws like California's CCPA and sector rules like HIPAA decide what applies, depending on your users. Before customer data goes into tasks, compare the sub-processor list and the security overview with your own obligations and any customer contracts.
