Choosing a tool you won't have to replace in a year

The first project tool a startup picks is usually whatever was free that week. It works for three people. Then the company hires, marketing needs a calendar, someone wants to track hours for a grant claim or a client pilot, and the free tool's answer is a second product or a much pricier tier. Moving everything at that point costs a week nobody has.

ShipSprint is designed to be the tool you start with and keep. The same workspace grows from a founding team's board to engineering, hiring, marketing and operations, all on one per-seat subscription with their own templates and vocabulary.

What Free covers, honestly

Free gives up to 5 people the core boards across 2 projects, with every project template and community support, and it doesn't expire. For a founding team planning its first product, that is often enough.

It is deliberately limited, though. Time tracking, GitHub integration, the manager dashboard, capacity planning and AI assistant access start on Team. Delivery forecasts, scorecards and the owner command center are Business only. Knowing that up front lets you plan the upgrade instead of discovering it.

The usual triggers for moving to Team at ₹299 per user per month are a sixth person, a third project, or wanting GitHub to move cards so the board stops depending on everyone remembering to update it.

As the company adds functions

The jobs a founder ends up covering

Building the product

Sprints and WIP-limited boards. On Team and up, merged pull requests close cards, and developers can work with tasks from Claude Code or Cursor.

Hiring the first people

A candidate pipeline and an onboarding checklist, so a new hire's first week has an owner and a list.

Writing things down

The built-in wiki keeps decisions with page history. Any sentence can become a task, so a decision becomes a job someone owns.

Telling investors when

On Business, delivery forecasts from measured velocity, updated as each sprint closes, so a slipping date is visible before the board meeting.

Small team, no wasted meetings

Each person opens to a "my day" screen: today's work, a one-tap time log on Team and up, and an "I'm blocked" button that brings in the right person with context. When five people share a single board, that does most of what a daily stand-up was for.

Once there are employees, plan around time off. On Team and up, capacity planning counts approved leave, and in British Columbia that means Christmas to New Year, Canada Day on 1 July, Thanksgiving in October and the province's other statutory holidays.

Nothing in ShipSprint watches people: no screenshots, no keystroke logging, no activity tracking. And if it turns out to be the wrong tool, the full workspace exports as JSON on every plan.

Signing up from Vancouver: what to know first

Who you're buying from. ShipSprint belongs to Quantuva Technologies Pvt. Ltd. in Hyderabad, India. There's no office or local entity in Canada, and help comes by email and in-app chat (community support on Free).

Time zones. IST is 13 hours 30 minutes ahead of Vancouver in winter and 12 hours 30 minutes ahead in summer. Paid-plan replies usually come within the same Indian working day, which is your night, so send questions before you log off.

Billing. Paid plans are per seat, in Indian rupees, through Razorpay. Your card issuer converts the charge to Canadian dollars. If you're registered for GST/HST, ask your accountant how it, and BC's PST, apply to a foreign software subscription.

Data protection. Once you hold customer or user data, PIPEDA applies, and British Columbia also has a provincial privacy law for private-sector organisations. Read the sub-processor list and the security overview, and check them against your obligations and any pilot contract before putting personal data in.
