When the spec and the backlog disagree

A product manager writes a spec for a feature. Engineers break it into tickets. Then the work starts, questions come up, decisions are made in a call or a review comment, and the spec is never updated. A month later the document says one thing, the tickets say another, and the code does a third. QA tests against the spec, support explains the feature from the release note, and customers get a slightly different product from the one anyone described.

It happens because the spec and the backlog live in separate tools with no link between them. Changing one doesn't touch the other.

In ShipSprint, the spec lives in the built-in wiki, right next to the board. Any sentence on a wiki page can become a task, so the tickets are created from the spec itself rather than retyped. Pages keep their history, so when a decision changes the spec, the change and its date are on record, and anyone can see what the feature was meant to be at each stage.

From sentence to card to merged code

Once a sentence in the spec is a card, the rest of the chain can follow automatically. On Team and up, ShipSprint connects to GitHub: a branch for the card moves it into progress, and a merged pull request closes it. The product manager can open the spec and follow each requirement through to the code that delivered it, without asking an engineer for a status update.

Requests that arrive after the spec is signed off, from sales, support or a customer call, go into a triage inbox. The product manager decides whether each one changes the spec, joins the backlog for later or is declined, which keeps scope creep in the open.

Engineers can stay in their editor. On Team and up, Claude Code, Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT and Antigravity connect over MCP and act with the engineer's own permissions, so an engineer can check or update their cards without switching windows.

Dates built from real velocity and real calendars

On Business, delivery forecasts are recalculated from measured velocity as each sprint closes, so the roadmap date for a feature reflects how fast the team actually turns specs into merged code.

The calendar matters as much. On Team and up, approved leave, out-of-office and public holidays count towards capacity. In Pune, Ganesh Chaturthi, usually in August or September, is the big regional festival, and Diwali and Holi take their own days. Engineers from other states may observe regional festivals that differ from state to state. If your company works some Saturdays, plan on those days.

Scorecards on Business are leave-adjusted and visible to the person they describe, and there are no screenshots, keystroke logs or activity tracking anywhere in the product.

Billing. Seats are billed per user in rupees through Razorpay. Prices exclude GST, which appears on the GST-compliant invoice; with a valid GSTIN you can claim input-tax credit. Check with your accountant.

Data protection. Specs rarely hold personal data, but bug reports and customer feedback often do, and those fall under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Read the sub-processor list and the security overview and check them against your obligations and customer contracts.
