Three pilots and one product
A B2B startup's first customers rarely sign a full contract on day one. They run a pilot: a few months, a defined goal, a champion inside the customer and a decision at the end. Running three of those at once with a team of six is hard to keep under control.
Each pilot generates its own requests, its own small customisations and its own meetings. The engineers who should be building the core product spend their days on whichever pilot shouted loudest, and nobody can say at the end what each pilot actually cost.
ShipSprint gives each pilot its own project and board, beside the main product board. On the Free plan, that works for a very small team with two projects in total; beyond that, Team gives you up to 100. Pilot requests go into a triage inbox first, where a founder decides what's a pilot-only tweak, what belongs in the core product and what waits.
Writing down what each customer agreed
Pilots go wrong when the success criteria live in a founder's memory. Write them in the wiki: what the customer wants to see, by when, who signs off, which integrations were promised. Pages keep their history, so when the champion changes the goal halfway through, the change is on record. Any sentence can become a task, so "export weekly report in their format" becomes a card the same day.
On Team and up, time logged against each pilot's project, in about five seconds per entry, shows what the pilot has really consumed. That's useful when pricing the full contract, and when deciding whether a pilot is worth continuing at all.
When an engineer is waiting on the customer for test data or access, "I'm blocked" on the my-day screen pulls in the founder who owns the relationship, with the card's context attached.
The whole startup on one plan
Engineering, HR, marketing and operations each get templates and vocabulary of their own.
Sprints on WIP-limited boards. On Team and up, GitHub branches move cards and merged pull requests close them.
A project per pilot, with feedback through the triage inbox and agreements in the wiki.
Case-study drafts, launch checklists and event preparation on marketing boards.
On Business, the owner command center across pilots and product, a Monday digest and delivery forecasts.
Pilot deadlines and festival weeks
A pilot review scheduled for the wrong week can cost a deal. In Pune, Ganesh Chaturthi, usually in August or September, is the big regional festival, and Diwali and Holi have their own dates. Your customer's team may be thinner then too, and engineers from other states may mark regional festivals that differ from state to state. On Team and up, approved leave and public holidays count towards capacity, so you see the gap before you commit a date to the customer. If you work some Saturdays, plan with them included.
And keep trust inside the team: there are no screenshots, keystroke logging or activity tracking in ShipSprint. On Business, scorecards are leave-adjusted and visible to the person they describe.
