The sprint that always spills over

Most teams know the pattern. Planning goes well, the sprint looks achievable, and at the end several cards move to the next sprint "almost done". After a few cycles nobody believes the sprint plan, and dates given to the rest of the company are padded by guesswork.

The causes are usually ordinary. The plan assumed everyone would be there all fortnight, but two people had leave and one had a festival at home. Too many cards were started at once, so many were half-done and few were finished. And nobody had a clear measure of how much the team really completes in a sprint, only of how much it hoped to.

ShipSprint addresses each of those directly: capacity that knows who's away, WIP limits that keep the team finishing, and, on Business, forecasts built from what the team actually delivered.

Plan for the people who are in

On Team and up, capacity planning counts approved leave, out-of-office and public holidays. When you plan a sprint, the available days are already reduced for the people who won't be there.

In Pune, the stretch that needs the most care is August to November. Ganesh Chaturthi, usually in August or September, is the city's big regional festival, and Diwali follows later in the autumn. Holi takes days in the spring. Engineers who have moved from other states may also go home for their own regional festivals, which differ from state to state. If your company works alternate Saturdays, plan on those days as well rather than a fixed five-day week.

Finish before you start

Per-column WIP limits are the simplest fix for a sprint full of half-done cards. Set a limit on "in progress" and "in review", and when a column is full, the board shows it. The next move is to help finish something, not to pick up a new card.

On Team and up, GitHub keeps the board honest: branches move cards into progress, and merged pull requests close them. The count of finished work at the end of the sprint is the count of merged work, not of cards somebody remembered to drag.

Each engineer works from a "my day" screen, with today's items, a one-tap time log and an "I'm blocked" button that pulls in the right person with the card's context. A blocker raised on Tuesday is cheaper than one admitted at the retrospective.

For the engineering manager

Measured, not guessed

Forecasts from velocity

On Business, delivery dates recalculated from measured velocity each time a sprint closes.

Manager dashboard

On Team and up, the team's load and capacity in one place, with leave counted.

Scorecards people can see

On Business, built from delivered work and logged hours, adjusted for leave, visible to the engineer.

Assistants in the editor

On Team and up, Claude Code, Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT and Antigravity over MCP, with each engineer's own permissions.

Retros with notes that last

Retrospective notes in the wiki with page history, and any agreed action turned into a task.

No surveillance in the numbers

Better estimates don't need closer watching. ShipSprint has no screenshots, no keystroke logging and no activity tracking. Time is logged by the engineer, in about five seconds on Team and up, and reminders about a missing day go to the engineer rather than their manager. Scorecards on Business don't penalise approved leave, so a week at home for Diwali isn't a dip anyone has to explain.

What a Pune dev team should know first

Who you're buying from. ShipSprint is built in Hyderabad by Quantuva Technologies Pvt. Ltd. and billed in rupees with GST-compliant invoices. Support is by email and in-app chat.

Time zones. Support works on IST, the same as you, and usually replies within the working day.

Billing. Seats are charged per user in rupees through Razorpay. Prices don't include GST, which the invoice adds; with a valid GSTIN, input-tax credit can be claimed. Your accountant can confirm.

Data protection. If test data or bug reports include real users' details, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 applies. Check the sub-processor list and the security overview against your obligations and any client agreement before such data goes into a card.
