When the deadline isn't yours to move
Houston's economy is closely tied to the energy industry, and plenty of the technology work in the city is done for, or inside, companies whose schedules are set by physical projects: a shutdown window, a construction milestone, a regulatory filing. Software teams in that position don't get to move the date because a sprint ran long. What they can do is find out early that it's going to.
That depends on two things most boards don't give you: an honest picture of who is available, and a forecast that updates as work happens. ShipSprint provides both. Capacity planning on Team and up counts approved leave and out-of-office. On Business, delivery forecasts are recalculated from the team's measured velocity as each sprint closes, so a schedule that's slipping shows up weeks before the milestone, while there's still time to add people or cut scope.
The rest of the company can work in the same place. HR, marketing and operations get their own templates and vocabulary on the same subscription, so hiring for a project, the bid for the next one and the recurring paperwork all sit beside the engineering board.
Teams that change size with the project
Project-based organisations often bring in contractors for the length of a job and release them afterwards. That makes a board's history hard to trust: half the people on it last month aren't on it now, and the newest arrivals don't know which cards are stale.
A few things in ShipSprint help a team like that. Per-column WIP limits keep the amount of work in flight visible, however many people are on the project this week. New requests go to a triage inbox, where someone assigns them on purpose, rather than to whoever was copied on the email. Everyone opens to a "my day" screen with today's items, a one-tap time log, and an "I'm blocked" button that pulls in the right person with the context attached, which matters most to the person who joined on Monday.
Seats are per user, so a contractor added for three months is a seat for three months. Team covers up to 40 users and 100 projects; Business has no project limit.
One subscription, four kinds of work
Each team gets templates in its own terms, and the owner sees all of them.
Sprint boards with WIP limits. On Team and up, GitHub branches move cards and merged pull requests close them.
Hiring pipelines and onboarding checklists for staff and contractors, on the same kind of board.
Recurring tasks and checklists that come round every month or every project, each with an owner.
On Business, a command center across every team and a Monday digest that arrives assembled.
Hours and holidays
When work is billed to a project, the hours matter. On Team and up, people log time in about five seconds beside the task they just finished, and timesheets collect the week per person. If someone forgets a day, the reminder goes to them, not their manager. There are no screenshots, keystroke logs or activity tracking; hours are what people record themselves.
For capacity, the US dates that most often shrink a sprint are Thanksgiving week in late November, Independence Day on 4 July and the end-of-December holidays. Enter leave for those early, and the manager dashboard shows the team that will actually be there.
Using ShipSprint from Houston: what to know first
Who you're buying from. ShipSprint is built by Quantuva Technologies Pvt. Ltd. in Hyderabad, India. There is no office or local entity in the US, and support is by email and in-app chat.
Time zones. IST is 11 hours 30 minutes ahead of Houston in winter and 10 hours 30 minutes ahead in summer. Replies usually come the same working day, Indian time, so a question sent in your afternoon is typically answered overnight. Plan setup so you're not stuck waiting on an answer at a critical point.
Billing. Plans are billed per seat in Indian rupees through Razorpay, and your bank converts the charge to dollars. How sales tax applies to a service bought from outside the US is for your accountant to say.
Data protection. The US has no single federal privacy law. A growing number of state laws apply instead, such as California's CCPA, plus sector rules such as HIPAA for health data. Texas has passed a consumer privacy law of its own as well, so check whether it reaches you. Compare the sub-processor list and the security overview with your obligations and client contracts before personal data goes in.
