The sprint that was supposed to be new features

Teams that maintain a system for years know the pattern. The sprint starts with a plan for new work, then a production bug arrives, then a dependency needs upgrading, then a client asks for a small change. By the end, the new feature is half done and nobody can say exactly where the time went.

ShipSprint gives maintenance a front door. Bugs and requests from outside the team go into a triage inbox, where the lead decides what is urgent, what waits for the next sprint and what doesn’t get done. Per-column WIP limits then keep the board honest: if “in progress” is full, picking up another interruption means putting something down, and the team sees that trade-off as it happens.

On Team and up, time logged in about five seconds next to each task shows the split between maintenance and new work at the end of the sprint, from data rather than impressions. On Business, delivery forecasts recalculate from measured velocity as sprints close, so a quarter of heavy maintenance shows up in the dates early.

A new developer’s first month

Long-lived systems carry a lot of context that isn’t in the code. Why the payments module has that odd retry, which client depends on a legacy endpoint, what the team decided about the database upgrade. A new developer usually learns it by interrupting the most senior person on the team, one question at a time.

In ShipSprint, those decisions live in the built-in wiki with page history, next to the cards they affect. An onboarding checklist from the HR templates can point a new hire through the pages that matter in order, and any sentence on a page can become a task. On Team and up, the developer can also ask an assistant (Claude Code, Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT or Antigravity, connected over MCP) what a card is about or what’s assigned to them, and the assistant only sees what that developer can.

When they get stuck, the “I’m blocked” button on the “my day” screen pulls in the person who can help, with the card attached, rather than a vague message in a channel.

For the development lead

What the team works with

GitHub on Team and up

Branches move cards; merged pull requests close them. The repository stays where it is.

Triage for interruptions

Bugs and requests sorted before they reach the sprint, not after.

WIP limits

Per-column limits that make overload visible on the board itself.

Context in the wiki

Architecture notes and decisions with page history, linked to the work.

No surveillance

No screenshots, keystroke logging or activity tracking. Time reminders go to the developer, not the manager.

Using ShipSprint from Quebec City: points to check

Who you’re buying from. The company behind ShipSprint is Quantuva Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad, India. It has no office or local entity in Canada. Support is by email and in-app chat.

Time zones. IST is 10 hours 30 minutes ahead of Quebec City in winter and 9 hours 30 minutes ahead in summer. Support usually responds within the Indian working day, so connect GitHub and set up the boards during the trial, ahead of a sprint that counts.

Billing. Seats are charged in Indian rupees through Razorpay and converted to Canadian dollars by your bank. Ask your accountant about GST, HST or QST on a service bought from abroad.

Data protection. PIPEDA applies to your organisation, and Quebec’s Law 25 adds provincial requirements. Error logs and bug reports pasted into cards can include personal information, so compare the sub-processor list and the security overview with your obligations and any client contract first.

Sprint capacity through the year

Capacity planning on Team and up takes approved leave and out-of-office out of each sprint before it’s filled. In Quebec City, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day on 24 June is a provincial holiday a week before Canada Day on 1 July; Thanksgiving in October and Christmas to New Year are the other dates to plan around.

FAQ

Questions from Quebec City dev teams

Yes. Use separate boards or projects, or keep both on one board and let the triage inbox decide what enters the sprint. Time logged on Team and up shows the split.
