Before you're a scale-up
A lot is written about companies that grew from five people to several hundred. Less about the stage before: a founder, an engineer or two, and a product that isn't finished, where every subscription is weighed against runway and every hour goes either to the build or to the next candidate call.
At that size you don't need enterprise software. You need a board everyone actually uses, a place to write decisions down, and a way to run hiring without a separate tool. ShipSprint covers those in one workspace, with templates and vocabulary for engineering, HR, marketing and operations on the same subscription.
The Free plan gives up to 5 users and 2 projects the core boards and every project template, with no time limit. A founding team can run on it until the team or the work outgrows it.
The basics that pay off later
Habits formed at five people are the ones you'll still have at fifty.
A per-column limit stops a small team from starting everything at once and finishing nothing.
The wiki keeps the why behind product and hiring choices, with page history, so it survives the people who made them moving on.
User feedback and bug reports go into a triage inbox and get scheduled on purpose.
Candidate pipelines and onboarding checklists with the HR templates, so the first hire's first week is planned.
Today's items and an "I'm blocked" button that brings in the cofounder who can help, with context attached.
When to move off Free
Team, at ₹299 per user per month, is worth it when one of a few things happens: a sixth person joins; you want GitHub to keep the board current, with branches moving cards and merged pull requests closing them; or you need hours, for a subsidy application, a paying pilot or simply to see where the week went. Team also brings capacity planning and AI assistant access over MCP for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and others.
Business, at ₹599, makes sense once investors or a large customer start asking for dates. It forecasts delivery from the velocity your team measures as sprints close, and adds the owner command center and a Monday digest. The 14-day trial lets you try all of it with no card; if nobody upgrades, the workspace continues on Free with nothing deleted.
Small teams feel holidays more. In the Netherlands, King's Day on 27 April, the summer school holidays and Christmas to New Year are when capacity drops most, and on Team and up, approved leave and out-of-office are counted in capacity. Check a pilot's go-live date against them. On any plan, there's no activity tracking, keystroke logging or screenshots.
