When the stand-up stops working

A daily stand-up works when everyone is in the same building at nine. Add a few remote developers, a contractor two time zones away and a product manager who travels, and the meeting either moves to a time that suits nobody or becomes a recording people skip.

The stand-up's real job was to answer three questions: what's moving, what's stuck, and who needs help. ShipSprint answers them without a meeting. A card's column is its status. On Team and up, GitHub keeps those columns honest: a branch moves its card into progress and a merged pull request closes it. Anyone, in any time zone, can look at the board and see what's moving.

For what's stuck, every developer has an “I'm blocked” button on their “my day” screen. Pressing it pulls in the person who can help, with the card's context attached, so the question waits in the right place rather than in a channel nobody's watching at that hour.

Assistants in the editor, with limits

Many developers now spend part of the day working with an AI assistant. On Team and up, Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor and Antigravity connect to the workspace over MCP. A developer can ask what's assigned to them, what's blocking a teammate, or move a card, without leaving the editor.

The assistant has exactly the developer's permissions, no more. It can't open a project the developer can't see. On Business, every action an assistant takes is recorded in the workspace audit log, alongside the actions people take directly, which helps when a team lead wants to know how a card ended up where it is.

Time tracking, on Team and up, takes about five seconds beside the task just finished, and missing-day reminders go to the developer, not the manager. There are no screenshots, keystroke logs or activity tracking, which is worth saying explicitly to remote developers.

Using ShipSprint from Atlanta: what the lead should check

Who you're buying from. ShipSprint comes from Quantuva Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad, India. There's no office or local entity in the US, and support works by email and in-app chat.

Time zones. IST is 10 hours 30 minutes ahead of Atlanta in winter and 9 hours 30 minutes ahead in summer, so we're another async participant in your day. Replies usually come the same working day, Indian time, which is typically overnight for you.

Billing. Each seat is billed in Indian rupees through Razorpay, and your bank converts the charge to dollars. Sales tax on a service bought from overseas is a question for your accountant.

Data protection. In place of one federal privacy law, the US has state laws such as California's CCPA and sector rules like HIPAA for health data. Logs and bug reports can carry user data, so read the sub-processor list and security overview and check them against those rules and your contracts first.

Capacity planning on Team and up counts approved leave and public holidays, which in the US means watching Thanksgiving week in late November, Independence Day on 4 July and the end-of-December holidays. Remote team members' leave counts the same way.
