Engineering inside a business that answers to auditors

Chicago is a major centre for finance and trading, and many of its developers work in-house at firms where technology serves the trading desk, the underwriters or the finance office. The work is real engineering, but the people setting priorities are business owners, and internal audit and risk teams want to know how change is controlled.

Three questions tend to come up. Who asked for this change and who approved it? How much engineering time went into it? Which tools can touch production data, and with whose permissions?

ShipSprint answers each from normal work rather than separate paperwork. Requests enter a triage inbox, where a lead or product owner decides what goes into a sprint. Time is logged next to the task on Team and up. On Business, the workspace audit log records actions in the workspace, including those taken by AI assistants.

How a sprint plays out when the business is closing its books

Quarter-end is when business owners want everything at once and are least willing to accept change.

Planning

Capacity planning on Team and up counts approved leave and holidays, so the sprint is sized to who's actually there, including around Independence Day on 4 July, Thanksgiving week and the end-of-December holidays.

Mid-sprint requests

Urgent asks from the business go to triage. Per-column WIP limits make the cost of saying yes visible: something else has to wait.

The freeze

Cards ready to deploy wait in their own column. On Team and up, merged pull requests close cards, so the board shows exactly what's merged and waiting.

The next quarter

On Business, forecasts are recalculated from measured velocity as the sprint closes, giving business owners a date based on the team's real pace.

Hours, tools and people

If your finance team tracks development effort by project, for internal chargebacks or for the accounting treatment of software costs, logged time gives them the record. Logging takes about five seconds next to the task just finished, and reminders go to the developer, not their manager.

On Team and Business, developers can connect Claude Code, Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT or Antigravity over MCP. An assistant can only do what the developer who connected it could, and that's worth telling your risk team up front. On Business, sign-in with Google or Microsoft suits firms that already manage staff accounts in Google or Microsoft.

The manager dashboard on Team shows workload, and Business adds scorecards that are adjusted for approved leave and visible to the developer they describe. There are no screenshots, keystroke logs or activity tracking.

Using ShipSprint from Chicago: what to settle first

Who you're buying from. Quantuva Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad, India. There's no office or local entity in the US, and support is by email and in-app chat. Your vendor management team will want to know this up front.

Time zones. IST is 11 hours 30 minutes ahead of Chicago in winter and 10 hours 30 minutes ahead in summer. Replies usually come the same working day in India, which is your night, so allow a day per round of questions during procurement and setup.

Billing. Seats are billed per user in Indian rupees through Razorpay, and your bank converts the charge to dollars. Illinois and the City of Chicago have their own rules for taxing cloud software, so ask your accountant or tax team.

Data protection. In the absence of a single federal law, US privacy duties come from state laws such as California's CCPA and Illinois's biometric data law, sector rules like HIPAA, and for finance firms, their own regulators and policies. Review the sub-processor list and the security overview against those before any customer or production data goes into tickets.
