The board says "in progress", the PR was merged yesterday

Every engineering team has the same quiet tax: the board drifts from the code. Someone merges a fix and starts on the next thing without moving the card. A branch sits open for a week but the card still says "to do". By sprint review, the board is a rough guess, and the engineering manager spends an hour reconciling it with the repository before the meeting.

Asking engineers to be more disciplined about updating cards rarely works for long, because the update competes with the actual work and the work wins. It's better to take the update out of their hands.

On Team and Business, ShipSprint connects to GitHub. Opening a branch for a card moves it into progress, and merging the pull request closes it. The board follows the repository rather than people's memory, and the sprint review starts from what really shipped.

Where a dev team's sprint actually gets stuck

Most sprints don't slip in the coding column. They slip in review, where five pull requests wait for the same two senior engineers, and in "blocked", where a ticket sits for days because the person who could unblock it never heard about it.

Per-column WIP limits handle the first. Put a limit on code review and the board shows when the queue is full, so the team reviews before starting something new. The "I'm blocked" button on each engineer's "my day" screen handles the second: one tap pulls in the right person with the card's context attached, without a message thread or a meeting.

Time logging, if your team does it, takes about five seconds next to the task you just finished. Reminders go to you, not your manager.

Capacity, freezes and the holiday weeks

Capacity planning on Team and up counts approved leave and out-of-office. For a US team the low-capacity weeks are predictable: Thanksgiving week in late November, Independence Day on 4 July, and the end-of-December holidays. If you freeze deploys over the year-end break, put the freeze on the board as well, so the last sprint before it is planned with the real number of working days.

Raleigh is one corner of the Research Triangle, and if your team works with a university or research group, outside contributors can be added as users to work on the same board, with the same GitHub sync.

Engineers aren't watched. There's no screen capture, keystroke logging or activity tracking anywhere in the product. On Business, scorecards are adjusted for approved leave and visible to the person they describe.

Time zones. IST is 10 hours 30 minutes ahead of Raleigh in winter and 9 hours 30 minutes ahead in summer. A support question sent at the end of your day usually gets its answer during the Indian working day, while you're offline, so attach logs or screenshots up front.

Billing. Each seat is billed in Indian rupees through Razorpay, and your bank converts the charge to dollars. Whether any sales tax is owed on software bought from abroad is for your accountant to answer.

Data protection. US privacy law is set mostly by the states, for example California's CCPA, with sector rules such as HIPAA layered on top; there's no single federal law. Check the sub-processor list and security overview against your own obligations and any client contracts before tickets carry personal data.
